In my book, “BodyReboot: Ignite Your Metabolism, Quickly Shed Weight & Eat Your Way To Health” I stress how important it is to repair a broken metabolism. Chances are that if you're eating a modern diet and living in a modern country… your metabolism is broken. In the book I give a variety of powerful ways you can reset your body and get it to burn fat. (for a limited time you can get a free copy of the book right here).
In the below post I'll show you three ways you can boost your metabolism.
#1 Drink Tea (especially green tea)
The Leaf had this to say on the subject:
“While caffeine can boost your metabolic rate and green tea has it, there’s something else in that delicate beverage at work. Green tea contains antioxidant catechins which have been shown in studies to boost metabolism by about four percent, which can amount to as much as 80 calories a day.”
#2: Eat Within A Specific Time Schedule
It's been found by a variety of nutritional experts and scientists that restricting food intake within a specific timeline can help you lose weight. One researcher showed that this approach might help control blood sugar and metabolism. An article on the subject said:
“A researcher at the Salk Institute in San Diego, Panda argues that eating within a certain time window each day can help people lose weight and may help prevent illnesses including diabetes, heart disease and cancer. In animal studies, he and others have shown that limiting food intake to a period of eight to 12 hours can boost cognitive and physical performance, and may even lengthen life span. Known as time-restricted feeding, or TRF, the approach is simple: Eat more or less what you want, but don't consume anything before or after the allotted time.
Panda argues that humans' circadian rhythm is not designed for a world with 24-7 access to food. “If you're eating all the time, it messes up that pattern,” he says. For many if not most Americans, that pattern is deeply out of whack, and many of us eat from early morning until late at night.” (Source: mitchellrepublic.com)
#3 Build Lean Muscle
Adding lean muscle through any form of resistance training will help you burn calories for up to 36 hours after your workout. In addition to that, by adding lean muscle to your body you're also increasing your resting metabolism.
Perhaps this might explain why some men have an easier time losing weight that women. Women's Health Magazine had this to say:
“Lifting weights will boost your metabolism in all three ways and should be your first priority if you really want to burn more fat more easily. Have you ever noticed that men can lose weight by cutting out their nightly ice cream while women have to count calories like crazy before the scale will even budge? That's because men tend to have more metabolically active muscle than women. Complete a total-body strength-training program two to three days a week to build significant lean muscle mass and boost your metabolism, even if you're cutting calories.”
And don't worry… you can add lots of lean muscle without looking like a bodybuilder 🙂
