It's always challenging finding the perfect recipes that work with a diet. This is especially the case if you love certain foods or are trying to avoid certain ingredients such as dairy. Similarly, you may be trying to stay away from carbs. It may take some researching to come up with some recipes you can rely on and add to your weekly food plan, but the health results will be worth it.
After all, a low carb diet such as the keto diet has many benefits. By eating foods higher in fat and protein you can push your body into ketosis, which means your body will begin to burn fat as opposed to carbs. This can lead to weight loss, improvement in body inflammation and also has many other benefits. Below is a recipe that avoids dairy and is low carb as well. This recipe is ideal when on a keto diet.
INGREDIENTS
6 eggs
2 Tbsp mayonnaise
1 tsp dijon mustard
1 tsp lemon juice
1/4 tsp lite salt (for potassium)
kosher salt and pepper to tasteINSTRUCTIONS
Place the eggs gently in a medium saucepan. Add cold water until the eggs are covered by about an inch. Bring to a boil for ten minutes. Remove from heat and cool. Peel the eggs under cold running water. Add the eggs to a food processor or magic bullet and pulse until chopped. Stir in the mayonnaise, mustard, lemon juice and salt and pepper. Taste and adjust as necessary. Serve with lettuce leaves and bacon for wrapping if desired. (optional)
Now, you may be thinking that eggs are dairy, am I right? Well, you should know that dairy is actually a product of the mammary gland of mammals. Yes, it refers to milk and anything made from milk, like butter and cheese. However, eggs don't come from a milk-producing animal. The eggs many of us eat come from poultry, chickens mainly. There tends to be some confusion mainly become eggs are sold in the “dairy” aisle in the store.
